PURPOSE:

Performs inspections of castings and/or waxes by the evaluation of x-ray plates to assure conformance to customer specifications.

Work under the general supervision performing x-ray inspection functions on castings and/or wax patterns following established x-ray methods, procedures and techniques.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and/or approves complex x-ray "shooting" sketches and techniques used by other x-ray personnel.
  • Responsible for training and testing lower classification personnel.
  • Develops x-ray techniques for department personnel to follow.
  • Interprets films and certifies conformance of castings to customer requirements.
  • Schedules work in x-ray inspection area and acts to direct work flow.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and malfunctions and maintains effective maintenance programs for all equipment, operates all equipment as required.
  • Interfaces with engineering and management, and proposes corrective action to solve problems.
  • Completes all necessary records and develops logs and other records to assure compliance to specifications.
  • Reports discrepancies to management/supervisor as required.
  • Follows all established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
  • Performs equipment calibrations as necessary
  • Maintains/generates related, graphs, records and reports. Frequent interaction with customers and source inspectors. Analyzes shots taken with the aid of a viewer, to accept or reject x-ray plates in accordance with standards set by Quality Control.
  • Performs other duties of equal, greater or lesser complexity as required by the position or as assigned by supervision.

SPEICAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expose and develop x-ray film to inspect and check a variety of parts patterns following standard or prescribed methods, requires the use of judgment and films, read and interpret film technique parameters within the limits of standard practices.
  • Physical demands to lift up to 20 lbs frequently and 35 pounds occasionally
  • Continuous mental or visual attention in positioning parts, setting exposure, developing film and performing related duties.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Finishing supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Use arithmetic, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Make simple use of drawings, x-ray folders, approved x-ray techniques, specifications, charts and tables. Follows established work room practice. Must complete Level I x-ray Technician Exam, general, specific, practical and physical exam requirements.
  • Over 1 year experience.
