Job Description SummaryThis role on the military CMC Design team is for a Module Team Lead position, leading design efforts for a CMC component as well as leading several hardware owners through high profile military program milestones, providing technical guidance and ensuring program deliverables are completed.

The military CMC Design team is looking for an experienced mechanical or aerospace engineer who has a desire to learn and design with the industry leading ceramic matrix composite team. This team works on military programs to design and test jet engine components made with ceramic matrix composites.

This role includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components, impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team, executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines, and there is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

This team lead actively contributes to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As a Team Lead, guiding multiple hardware owners: Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • As a hardware owner, use mechanical design principles to progress CMC turbine components through GE-Customer design reviews. Work with manufacturing and test organizations to mature technologies via strategic component testing.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • At least 5 additional years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position
  • Ability to maintain or obtain a Government Security Clearance, this role is intended to be on-site.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with turbine flowpath hardware design and engineering drawings.
  • Technical depth in composites hardware design and/or manufacturing design for producibility.
  • Experience with computer-aided design and stress analysis software.
  • Experience in analytics and statistical tools.
  • Proven facilitation and collaboration skills.
  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.
  • Interest in being a self-starter with your eye constantly on problem solving and driving solutions.
  • Highly-motivated, passionate and exceptional communication skills.
  • Keen listener and innate drive to succeed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
