Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Manager of Aviation Safety to join our Aviation Safety team based in Columbus, MS.

You will lead all aspects of the aviation safety functions for the site. The ASM (Aviation Safety Manager) is primarily responsible for leading internal aviation safety as well as ensuring compliance with applicable aviation safety regulations and Airbus policies. The ASM reports to the Senior Director of Safety Programs, and coordinates with the Flight Safety Officers (FSO’s), and other Airbus department’s safety representatives to identify, investigate and handle aviation safety hazards, incidents, and accidents. The ASM also coordinates and carries out actions to lead or mitigate risk; and provide support of Airbus Helicopter’s Safety Management System (SMS).

On the eastern border of Mississippi you’ll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It’s here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

Aviation Safety: 60

  • Serve as the Columbus, MS site focal point for aviation safety matters and safety promotion activities.
  • Collaborate with process owners of aviation production, maintenance, and flight operations to promote hazard identification and safety ownership.
  • Maintain the safety reporting system, handle investigation of aviation hazards and incidents, and initiate containment and corrective action(s) as necessary.
  • Lead the site&39;s Safety Risk Management activities under SMS, to include the site development plan and organizational change activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the results of implemented corrective actions, ensuring that the feedback loop and control measures are in place and working efficiently.
  • Engage in continuous feedback and communication for all safety report submitters.
  • Develop and review safety communications and promotional material to support the company’s safety culture.
  • Maintain the site&39;s flight line safety program, to include development of policy and procedures, providing training, coordination of access control and representation to the flightline steering committee.
  • Participate in Flight Test development Pre-Type Inspection Authorization meetings and Safety Review Boards to identify and mitigate flight risks.
  • Represent Aviation Safety at operational departmental meetings to raise awareness to safety hazards, initiatives, and other safety information.
  • Run the site&39;s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) Everbridge Notification system.

Company SMS: 30

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of AHNA’s Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Lead the Safety Risk Management initiatives for the site.
  • Organize and facilitate the Safety Action Group (SAG) for the Columbus site and where necessary escalate to the Safety Review Board (SRB).
  • Responsible for the development and management of the facilities ERP for aircraft accidents.
  • Facilitate Safety Risk Management activities with collaborators to identify, assess, analyze, and mitigate aviation safety risks.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of required safety information, including monthly and quarterly summary reports, as well as ad hoc queries. Provides weekly/monthly management reports on safety goals and objectives as required.
  • Responsible for the creation, delivery and maintenance of SMS training, and ensure employees possess the competencies appropriate with their role in SMS.

Military Programs Support: 10

  • Participate and provide technical expertise to the US Army System Safety Program for the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) maintenance and repair activities as requested.

Your Boarding Pass:
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in safety or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree or equivalent experience mentioned in the above requirement.
  • Required: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in aviation safety and/or helicopter maintenance/flight operations.
  • Preferred: Seven (7) years’ experience in flight operations, aircraft maintenance, and/or safety.
  • Preferred: Experience as a fleet operator and/or aircraft technician.
  • Preferred: Military aviation safety and/or aircraft production experience.
  • Preferred: Experience in Quality Assurance.
  • Required: Training in Safety Management System or similar qualifications.
  • Preferred: Accident investigation licensure/certifications
  • Preferred: Human Factors licensure/certifications
  • Preferred: Root cause analysis (e.g. Taproot, Bowtie, SHELL) licensure/certifications
  • Preferred: Organizational Change principles licensure/certifications
  • Preferred: FAA commercial/instrument pilot or equivalent with rotorcraft-helicopter rating and/or A&P certificate
  • Required: Broad knowledge of aviation safety programs, technical publications, aircraft systems, helicopter aerodynamic principles, FAA operational and safety management regulations, and other fields relating to conduct of flight programs
  • Required: Able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English
  • Required: Able to establish and maintain positive relationships with governmental and civilian representatives and customers
  • Required: Proficiency in Google Suite or similar software
  • Preferred: Proficiency in Smartsheet
  • Preferred: Technical working knowledge of Flight Data Monitoring systems with associated software
  • Preferred: Technical knowledge of Helicopter Usage and Monitoring Systems (HUMS)
  • Up to 20 Domestic and International Travel involved with this role

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor. Several times a week
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Several times a week
