STS Technical Services is hiring a Cost Accounting Manager to support a manufacturing facility in Ridgeland, South Carolina. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and reporting on financial data related to production costs and inventory. Your primary objective will be to ensure accurate costing of manufactured products, analyze cost variances, and provide insights that drive decision-making and cost reduction initiatives. Collaborating closely with finance, production, and inventory control teams, you will help optimize manufacturing processes and enhance profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Accounting & Variance Analysis: Conduct cost accounting tasks, including inventory accounting, reconciliation, and variance analysis to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with teams across the organization to ensure accurate cost allocations and accounting treatments, addressing business operations’ needs.
- Inventory Management: Partner with the Inventory Control team to coordinate physical and cycle inventory counts for two business units, investigating discrepancies and adjusting inventory records as necessary.
- Inventory Analysis: Review inventory aging and obsolete stock, assessing provision calculations and making adjustments to reflect business needs accurately.
- Process Documentation: Document controls, processes, and procedures related to manufacturing and operational accounting, including the development of cost standards for materials, labor, and capital expenditures.
- Ad Hoc Reporting: Prepare specialized reports and analyses to address business inquiries, demonstrating responsiveness to changing requirements.
- Month-End Close: Assist with month-end close processes for ERP inventory modules, reconciling balance sheets and profit and loss accounts with the Assistant Controller.
- Confidentiality & Integrity: Maintain confidentiality of financial information and investment decisions.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other productivity software.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial information effectively.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and adaptability to different platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to building positive relationships across departments.
- Willingness to work extended hours when necessary to support closing activities and ad hoc projects.
- High standards of accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in all work activities.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Previous experience in cost accounting, manufacturing, or related fields preferred.
Working Conditions
- This role operates primarily in an office environment but may occasionally require work in warehouse settings.
- PPE is required for work on the warehouse and production floors.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally. Frequent standing, walking, handling, and reaching with hands and arms are also required.
