Position Profile

Reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing, the Director of Maintenance assumes the accountability for leading a full site MRO facility in the De Havilland Manufacturing/MRO asset cluster (as defined from time to time).  The Director of Maintenance retains full site accountability including functions such as operations, planning, tooling, as well as dotted line reporting from supporting functions including finance, supply chain, human resources, IT, and others. The Director of Maintenance acts as direct liaison between the site and has primary responsibility for ensuring the execution of the short-term and mid-term strategies for the site.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the business remains aligned to the overall direction and business goals of the Aerostructures/MRO group, and that the appropriate metrics are clearly defined, communicated to, and understood by the management team and the underlying operational teams
  • Ensure there is a robust health and safety plan, committees and process in place to ensure best practice adherence and attitudes towards the safety and well being of our employees
  • Ensure the site remains compliant with all applicable regulations (including Transport Canada), standards and applicable laws
  • Leads the development of employees and culture by ensuring development and execution of site training initiatives; performance management / development plans; mentor/develop future leaders within the group for succession
  • Ensure the management team utilizes key metrics to measure their business overall and have in place KPIs for each of the critical functional areas within the site itself
  • Ensure the site has executable action plans in place to support both mid - and short-term business plans
  • Implement, maintain and execute a comprehensive reporting system ensuring a consistency in reporting metrics and how measures are calculated
  • Establish and reinforce positive, respectful, transparent communications and interactions

 

Additional Accountabilities

  • Coordinate activities within the site to ensure efficient inter/intra-site processes, movement of goods, movement of resources, allocation of work and product, and trouble shoot conflicts arising from such processes/movement
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing is in place to execute the organization’s strategies including developing and monitoring site workforce plans
  • Provide senior management with advice on the financial implications of business activities and priorities
  • Ensure that the business has thorough but efficient processes for financial forecasting, budgets and reporting
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities; makes recommendations on capital expenditures, providing informational inputs for business cases
  • Prepare ad hoc, as necessary, and routine reporting for management including financial performance; progress against plans; identification of material risks and mitigation strategies thereon; and others as requested
  • Maintains awareness of both external and internal competitive environment, opportunities for expansion, customers, new markets, industry developments, and other relevant market data

Education & Experience 

  • Valid M1 or M2 license is required
  • Aerospace / Aviation related degree and/or equivalent experience / education combination
  • 8+ years in progressively responsible aviation / aerospace leadership roles, preferably in an environment of constant change and evolution
  • Prior experience in financial analysis and reporting, preferably in an MRO environment, is a requirement
  • Prior experience in assessing improvement and optimization opportunities and making appropriate recommendations
  • Superior planning and analysis ability in complex multi-project organization

 

Other Requirements

  • Travel will be required, therefore the successful candidate must maintain the ability to legally travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Successful applicant must be eligible to attain and hold Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
