Location Profile:

Located in Wilder, KY and founded in 1946, Andrews Laser Works specializes in the fabrication of complex assemblies from Inconel, steel, aluminum, and titanium sheet with a core competency in aero engine brackets and components. Utilizing laser cutting, machining, forming, stamping, welding, & assembly processes, the company transforms sheet metal into complex, tight-tolerance brackets for aircraft engines. With an ever-changing aerospace industry in which customers continually ask suppliers to integrate and innovate, Andrews Laser Works is responding to the challenge.

The Director of Business Operations is ultimately responsible for product/program performance, profitability, delivery, and customer satisfaction. Directs all activities related to program management, estimating/on-boarding, scheduling/production control, and final operations. This position will oversee the following functions:

Program Management:

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; Manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

Scheduling/Production Control:

Develops and maintains production schedules for all resource groups in the plant. Monitors resource allocation for short and long term capacity constraints and recommends alternative paths to management, if necessary. Acts as liason between Program Management and Production Management. Interacts daily with line management to maintain schedule attainment. Verifies that the master schedule is executing according to priorities set by Program Management.

Plans, prepares, issues, controls, and coordinates material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Reports on the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Confirms material supply and demands based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc. Expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers, and requests for shipping orders.

Purchasing/Inventory Control:

Monitors / manages inventory levels at every stage of the process. Works with procurement to manage Raw Materials. Works with Production to manage WIP queue sizes, and works with scheduling / production control / program management to define and manage to acceptable finished goods inventory levels.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop teams to:
    • Build strong customer relationships including full support of planning / scheduling demand, interfacing with customers, providing status.
    • Develop a long term capacity plan, interfacing with manufacturing teams and coordinating with Program Management. Notifying Sr. Management team of potential barriers in advance along with suggested plans of action to overcome these barriers. Building a master schedule to carry out production plan to meet customer demand.
    • Build a consistent, solid communication structure from customer to the shop floor that eliminates confusion and provides clear priorities in every department at all times to meet master schedule requirements.
    • Manage all expedites of material through the process along with required material movement, paperwork, and communication necessary.
  • Develop and communicate quarterly production, sales, and inventory goals for the entire plant.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, monitor, and update long-range plans by translating Executive Team goals and objectives into actionable programs and initiatives
  • Manage direct reports; Establish schedule, quality, and cost targets; Delegate to direct reports or teams with direct reports to accomplish goals
  • Work with other Directors/Managers to coordinate and align operations and activities; Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and resources to meet Division goals
  • Partner with HR and direct reports to resolve problems, complaints or grievances, and to plan and forecast staffing
  • Champion Six Sigma and facilitate lean initiatives
  • Develop and deploy management metrics
  • Support IT and Production with long-range resource plans
  • May occasionally perform special projects; Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and their use to schedule supply chain, parts, tooling, production, shipping/receiving of products
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, and costs
  • Understand/use techniques for effective control of delivered quality, cost, and schedule in the manufacture of Andrews Laser Works products
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering and manufacturing including communication techniques, production procedures, and resources relevant to the production of Andrews Laser Works products
  • Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning and forecasting including people, material, and equipment resource allocation; corporate and human resource policies and benefits; leadership and teaming; and production methods.
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing work area practices including 6-S, visual controls, standard work, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes and able to instruct others in these practices
  • Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job
  • Consider costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
  • Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels
  • Able to establish and communicate clear priorities and to influence others to support and act on those priorities
  • Ability to summarize large amounts of data into concise points for senior management.
  • Ability to filter larger amounts of data and recommend strategic directions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines

Education and Experience

  • BS/BA or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years related experience and 2+ years in a leadership role

Travel

  • Occasional inter-facility, some supplier and customer travel
