Primary Objective of the Position:

As Director, Ground Service Equipment (GSE) your role is to provide leadership to a dynamic team, supporting them to achieve the
objectives of managing our system GSE fleet. The objectives include overseeing the Preventive Maintenance Program, ensuring
critical equipment reliability, and optimizing costs while maximizing equipment utilization, including Unit Load Device (ULD) repairs.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Oversee the comprehensive management of the system fleet, including refining the Preventive Maintenance Program (PMI) to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance critical equipment reliability, utilizing data-driven and end user insights to identify areas for improvement and reduce downtime.
  • Strategically allocate resources to minimize costs while maximizing equipment utilization, contributing to overall operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Collaborate with the Base Manager and operational teams to develop customized strategies aimed at improving station performance and achieving cost control, aligning with station objectives.
  • Ensure timely completion of all preventative, routine, and non-routine maintenance tasks for Ground Service Equipment (GSE) and Unit Load Devices (ULD), maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and associated expenses, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial management.
  • Oversee inventory control processes, including storage and restocking of spare parts, in accordance with company procedures to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all tooling and shop equipment meet company standards for safety and functionality, facilitating efficient maintenance operations.
  • Ensure proper processing of unserviceable material in accordance with company policies and local environmental regulations to mitigate risks and liabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with established company and government safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in fleet and capital equipment sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier management to optimize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Responsible for the training of GSE team members and ensuring the team remains current with all technical and regulatory training requirements to function in their assigned role.
  • Responsible for managing all payroll documentation including overtime sheets, time-off requests and master payroll sheets for submission.
  • Lead and participate in regular team meetings, facilitating open communication, disseminating important information, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Support a safe and efficient aircraft fueling and de-fueling processes.
  • Support the management of fuel systems, ensuring adequate fuel supply, coordination of aircraft fueling and de-fueling operations, and maintaining the operation of fueling equipment.
  • Work closely with Manager, Fuel and De-ice Operations on developing additional standard assignments for team members to include: general labor duties, loading/offloading aircraft, general housekeeping, data entry, and other duties as assigned by management.

  • Strong troubleshooting and demonstrated leadership skills in the workplace required.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, team members and serve as a team player under all types of conditions is required.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) and safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensure a clean and safe workplace for team members.

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Must possess at least a High School Diploma / GED equivalent.
  • Post secondary courses in mechanical engineering, business administration, transportation management and business management would be an asset.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years Supervisory experience in mechanical maintenance and industry vehicle/equipment maintenance.
  • Previous experience in airline/aviation and/or ground support equipment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated management and/or support service experience.
  • Must be flexible to work various shifts, weekends, or irregular shifts and emergency call-in.
  • Must possess a valid Provincial Drivers License
  • Ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP).
  • Ability to use computers – MS Word & Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Must successfully pass drug test/ background check.
