Sr. Director - Projects - San Antonio Commercial Programs

Reports to the Vice President and General Manager, Commercial Programs. 

The Sr. Director, Projects will be a key senior leadership role responsible for leading change and business transformation at the San Antonio site. The purpose of this role will be to strategically lead the Project Management initiatives for San Antonio Commercial Operations to ensure successful organizational advancement, growth and new business generation. The Sr. Director, Projects should have a proven track record of successful project delivery, an ability to improve project management practices and substantial team leadership experience with a focus on team development. This individual will work collaboratively with leaders and teams across the business, both locally and internationally, and will have the ability to influence our organization’s long-term strategy. 

The role has both direct leadership accountability projects and oversight of projects that could be led within the BU or centrally. 

The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, demonstrated experience in organizational change leadership, business process improvement and project management. 

The role does not have direct line management responsibilities, however, will lead cross-functional teams and be a major influencer in business culture transformation. Essential traits for the successful candidate are a continuous improvement mindset, collaborative behaviors, and a passion for practical technology adoption.  

 

Responsibilities:

Working with the VP/GM, Commercial Programs, the Commercial Programs Senior Leadership Team, and the Airlines & Fleets Senior Team as required, develop and lead a project management structure for a multi-year business transformation agenda to support the San Antonio long range plan (LRP). 

Implement and manage a sustained San Antonio Commercial Project Management governance structure, and capture & prioritize strategic and in-year business improvement projects. This governance must emphasize core business values and metrics, including but not limited to:

  • Financial Metrics 
  • Customer Experience
  • Operational Excellence
  • Organizational Culture & Employee Retention
  • Support of long-term ESG objectives and requirements. 

Key success measures include timely execution and completion of chosen projects, standardization of process and reporting, employee engagement, as well as traditional CI and Business Process Improvement project metrics.

Position Accountabilities:

Project Management & Governance

  • Plan and execute projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time delivery, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
  • Oversee the San Antonio Commercial team portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with the organizations business goals and delivering maximum value 
  • Facilitate the portfolio management of projects across the BU to meet savings targets and value capture
  • Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of a project management framework, governance practices, methodologies, and standards for project management
  • Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines, making adjustments as necessary to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring project managers and teams to enhance performance and professional growth
  • Conducting risk management to minimize project risks and developing contingency plans
  • Assesses project implementation support needs, provides the appropriate support resource, recognizes and resolves project implementation issues, measures progress and ensures that the overall implementation plan is met and the intended results are achieved for the customer and company.

CI Leadership 

  • Use interdisciplinary knowledge and tools, including Continuous Improvement principles, to help the teams uncover opportunities and solve problems.
  • Supports the business in managing and delivering improvement projects and ensuring business excellence in various functional areas, as well as at a Value Stream level
  • Understand Lean principles and rigorously promote concepts to impact organizational culture, engage our teams and leaders

Business Intelligence and Knowledge of Technology

  • Setting the expectation for using the power of data as the foundation of improvement and driving a culture of business excellence
  • Promoting data availability and visualization as a management process
  • Reviewing key performance metrics to ensure progressive and effective utilization
  • Rigorously working to validate and cleanse process data to ensure data integrity and credibility
  • Quantifying business improvement benefits (cost, delivery, and quality)

Leadership Accountabilities

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent education/experience.
  • 6-8 years relevant experience, preferably in aviation aftermarket services.

  • Experience leading change, business excellence and/or continuous improvement in a related industry is an asset
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with a focus on results and continuous improvement
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data to drive project decisions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present information to stakeholders at all levels
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
