Join a talented team of engineers engaged in the design and fabrication a new generation of spacecraft for Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO) that will transport state-of the-art scientific instruments that observe Earth weather, oceans, and climate. This constellation equips meteorologists, climatologists, and scientists with timely data for short-term forecasts, atmospheric event severity assessment, and emergent environmental hazard evaluation needed to secure property and save lives.
This opening is for a Full Spectrum Leadership position for the GeoXO Program focused on developing, guiding, and managing an integrated team of embedded software engineers. This Flight Software Manager will serve as a first line manager responsible for providing technical and functional guidance to a team of software engineers to ensure effective execution to cost, schedule, and work product commitments.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Managing a resource loaded software design, development, and test plan that supports multiple Artemis missions simultaneously.
• Reporting on relative status and metrics pertaining to execution results and effectivity
• Providing technical guidance to the design, development, documentation, and testing of a
large, complex, FSW product
• Ensuring the establishment software processes and adherence to good engineering practices
• Participating in release planning activities, escalation and removal of team impediments, and management of risk
• Coordination of employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessments, salary planning, recognition/disciplinary actions, and engineering competency development
• Collaboration with senior management to plan and implement personnel assignments to match staffing demands
• Contribution to or lead cost estimating efforts for engineering change requests
• Fostering a collaborative environment with our NASA team partners
Basic Qualifications:
• Significant embedded or software engineering experience
• Demonstrated experience as a manager or team lead
• Demonstrated software systems engineering, full software life cycle experience, and hardware-software integration capabilities
• Demonstrated ability to interact with the customer and develop effective relationships
• Ability to support moderate travel
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Desired Skills:
• Prior experience in NASA spacecraft programs
• Prior experience flight software development experience
• Prior experience with integration and test of embedded software systems
• Prior engineering management experience including task planning, resource management,
and employee development and mentoring
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical systems/programs
• Experience working in technical teams across multiple disciplines
• Experience with testing environments for software development, including simulated testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing
• Familiarity with meteorological satellite or science instrument requirements and software development
• NASA customer experience
• RSE experience
• CAM or Work Package Manager Experience

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $123,500 - $236,800. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as spanet and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
