Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manger, this position is responsible for the leadership of laboratory technicians, management of the laboratory quality systems and equipment and the certification of finished product.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible and accountable for implementing, enforcing, and promoting safety and 6S initiatives and expectations.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the job performance of lab technicians.
  • Develops, coaches, and trains employees in technical work instructions, job procedures and other subjects in accordance with job training requirements.
  • Review employee time and attendance, assign appropriate time codes, and approve vacation requests.
  • Responsible and accountable for adhering and enforcing policies defined in the Handbook.
  • Prioritize and schedule analytical testing required prior to shipping finished goods.
  • Communicate results of analyses in a timely and professional manner, including reports, papers/publications, and presentations.
  • Maintain the C-M metallurgical laboratory including equipment upgrades, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and unscheduled service.
  • Administer and maintain Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in C-M Laboratories.
  • Review and issue finished good certifications.
  • Manage and maintain laboratory certifications including management of technical documentation, coordination of round-robin testing, and maintaining lab technician certifications.
  • Utilize LIMs to develop and implement process control plans relevant to laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain proper overtime list(s).
  • Responsible for tracking and supporting cost reduction efforts.
  • All other duties as assigned.

      Education and Experience

      • Four-year degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy/ Materials Science Engineering, or a related field of study required
      • Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in a supervision role.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      The typical work environment is a standard office setting / office contained in a foundry or manufacturing setting. The employee is occasionally required to perform work in a foundry environment with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts / work in high temperatures / risk of electrical shock; the typical noise level is moderate noise.
