Summary and Objective

The MRO Accounting & Expense Control Manager will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities for the Maintenance Repair & Overhaul function.

The MRO Accounting & Expense Control Manager will lead all day-to-day finance operations for the MRO and supervise a small team of accounting staff members. The Accounting Manager will ensure that the MRO has the systems and procedures in place to produce effective managerial and financial reporting by working closely with various departments and companies, not only to provide insight into finance and accounting procedures, but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations. In addition, s/he will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.

  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.

  • Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.

  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.

  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of MRO operations;

  • Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.

  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key information, including presentations to senior management or other outside partners.

  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.

 

Competencies

  • Proficient in accounting software.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

 

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.

  • Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.

  • Implement training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.

Physical demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.

  • Five years or more of related experience required.

  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll.

  • Certified Public Accountant designation

 

Preferred education and experience

  • MBA preferred
