Position Summary
The Manager System Ops Safety Programs & SMS is responsible for the overall management, in close coordination with the Safety Department, of System Operations Safety Program to include management of System Operations Operational Safety Reporting and Investigations, Safety Data Analysis and Trending, facilitation of Systems Operation Center (SOC) Risk Working Group, Change Management coordination of external audit findings and actions (including International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), Department of Defense (DoD), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP)) and IOSA gap analysis, DoD gap analysis, oversight of the System Operations Audit Program (SOAP), and continuous improvement of the System Ops Safety Programs & SMS. The Manager directly reports to the Director Emergency Response & Business Continuity, and has functional reporting line (‘dotted line’) to the Director Operational Safety & SMS.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance of JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Policy, Security Policy and behavioral standards.
- Serves as the primary resource for System Operations Safety Program and general oversight of regulatory compliance as it relates to Safety areas. Ensures that System Operations Leadership and Safety Leadership are apprised of all significant safety issues and trends.
- Coordinates System Operations SMS program in conjunction with the Safety Department.
- Coordinates the SOC Risk Working Group & Safety Review Board (SRB) Agenda with the Vice President of System Operations.
- Manage the Risk Module in Aviation Quality Database (AQD) to document risks, risk level, mitigation actions and departmental change management process.
- Coordinate Corrective Action Plans with stakeholders for identified findings and safety observations.
- Collect information to facilitate event investigation and root cause analysis. Investigatory efforts will include, but not be limited to, conducting Crewmember interviews, soliciting and reviewing written statements/reports, and researching technical reports and documents.
- Execute Safety Investigations in accordance with SMS policy in conjunction with Safety Department’s Safety Investigations team as required, and reviews safety incidents, conducts investigation as required by the protocol and performs root cause analysis to establish and implement mitigation where required.
- Oversight of JetBlue’s confidential safety reporting program (SAR, ASAP, etc) as a member of the SOC Action Report Review Teams. Functions as the Dispatch ASAP Manager and facilitates the Dispatch Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings.
- Leads the coordination of related IOSA & DoD Gap Analysis for their operational department as well as being System Operations ‘in-audit’ lead coordinator, regulatory audits, and Internal Evaluation/Quality Audit findings as they relate and apply to the System Operations. This will be conducted in close coordination with the Safety Evaluation and Audit Program Team. Responsible for executing the System Operations Audit Program (SOAP) schedule.
- Reviews, tracks, analyzes and trends System Operations Safety reports and related Safety Data and leads Department’s Continuous Improvement (tracking, actioning, implementation of corrective / mitigating actions).
- Generates regular reports on health of operational safety programs as well as key metrics and goals.
- Participates in regular meetings with Director Operational Safety & SMS and other safety department meetings as requested.
- Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement.
- Supervisory duties of assigned Crewmembers.
