We believe that inclusion helps us thrive and grow at United across our collaborative Finance teams consisting of Financial Planning & Analysis, Internal Audit, Treasury, Global Procurement, Controllership, Investor Relations and more. These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Global Procurement (GP) organization at United Airlines is responsible for procuring goods and services and developing/maintaining relationships with third-party suppliers with the objective of reducing total cost and risk to the company while improving levels of quality, service, and technology.

The objective of this role is to gather and structure supplier spend data (direct and indirect) and provide data-driven insights, to support GP team optimize their procurement strategies and purchasing decisions. Key responsibilities include data ingestion from various sources, transformation, cleaning, integration, classification, and modeling. Role will be analytical with focus on data engineering, data classification, and providing significant insights by applying technical dashboards. Additionally, the role will encompass specific data workflow improvements and project management.

This role requires strong data analytical skills, hands on experience with analytical tools and methods, and project management experience. It also requires strong communication skills and relationship building, also strong cross functional collaboration. This role will have direct managerial responsibility of analysts in US as well as United’s offshore India office.

Develop spend analytics data structure, focusing on 3rd party supplier spend (direct and indirect):
  • Apply various data methodologies including data collection, cleansing, mapping, integration, classification, enrichment, analysis, quality assurance, and reporting and visualization techniques.
  • Employ sophisticated data engineering techniques, leveraging innovative tools like SQL Coding, Palantir Foundry, Spreadsheets as Excel, and dashboards such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Develop and improve current data structure and apply vital automations to support three main objectives: the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of data.
Lead and apply information workflow processes:
  • Analyze and understand the data workflow within carious procurement platforms, including their interconnectivity and communication channels.
  • Integrate and leverage data from various systems.
  • Suggest improvements towards data workflows and data efficiency.
  • Find system and process gaps, while communicating solutions and standard methodologies to fix them.
  • Work closely with teams and cross functions to improve data efficiency.
Reporting and cross functional collaboration:
  • Apply data to provide relevant insights for partners in procurement and cross functions.
  • Foster strong collaboration with teams, to ensure comprehensive fulfillment of their data requirements.
  • Work closely with IT and business operation partners to ensure that data is complete and accurate, so to serve the right purpose.
  • Lead business relationships optimally with all key partners across Business Divisions.
People management:
  • Lead and mentor team members, provide guidance and input on all mentioned responsibilities.
  • Train and develop individuals and all team members on spend data analysis and relevant tools.
  • Lead people relationships optimally with all key partners across teams and divisions.
  • Lead meetings, set agendas, organize memos and notes, and task tracking.

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors degree in Computer science, information technology, engineering, economics, statistics, finance, or another business-related fields
  • 5+ years of data analytics in mentioned business fields
  • Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving skills, with attention to details
  • Sophisticated in data tools such as SQL, Palantir Foundry, and coding concepts
  • Proficient with Excel spreadsheets
  • Experienced working with large datasets, ability to tell a story using data
  • Proficiency working with visualization tools such as Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau
  • Passionate about data analytics and visionary for how it can be applied
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Highly structured with attention to details, and result oriented
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to proactively lead partner expectations on current and future business needs
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position

  • Masters degree
  • Quantitative fields such as: Data science, data engineering, information technology
  • Experience in data modeling, database design, data integration, and data base management systems
  • Experience in procurement and supplier spend data
