Materials Manager

Position Summary:

The Materials Manager will be responsible for the scheduling, purchasing, materials, alloy, and inventory control functions. The position will support production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements. Interfaces with Operations on the planning and forecasting of orders to meet shipments as measured by the production schedules and customer. Responsible for developing systems which optimizes the inventory counting and maintaining of materials used in production on a daily basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with vendors to plan and prepare schedules that will ensure the appropriate levels of inventory are maintained
  • Lead Materials and Production Control team which includes hiring, performance evaluations, and talent development
  • Recommends and purchases new equipment for expansion, efficiency, cost reductions, quality or improvement
  • Manages policies and procedures for shipping/receiving and storage of a variety of equipment, supplies and materials
  • Ensures timely shipments of the product, within customer’s promised dates, specifications and timeline
  • Responsible for Work in Progress, Finished Goods, and Raw Material Inventory levels, and metrics
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of financial and merchandising records and reports including TOC
  • Manage operational metrics including TOC, LU targets daily, weekly, and monthly and ESH
  • Lead supervision team which includes hiring, performance evaluations, and talent development
  • Serves as a liaison for the department and outside vendors/supply chain regarding production requirements
  • Establish and execute annual operating budgets for department and meet the budget
  • Develops manufacturing plans and maintains production schedules internally and externally
  • Controls cost to manufacture, work-in-process inventory, and thru-put
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Skills:

  • Successful experience in manufacturing with scheduling, production control, purchasing, and materials management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, relentlessly execute, and deliver results in conformance with action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet production demands.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strategic vision for new and future technology to support manufacturing and operational excellence.
  • Prefer background with Lean, Six Sigma, and 6S implementation and management.
  • Experience working with outside vendors, supply chain, and customers.
  • Proven ability to work hands-on with the team to achieve objectives.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Materials, or related Engineering field. MS or MBA degree is desirable.
  • Prefer 10+ years of experience in purchasing/material management working with an E.R.P system in manufacturing.
  • Prefer 5+ years of experience in shipping/receiving, dock management, and alloy management.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma Certification.
