The Air Operations team is responsible for planning, analytics, and technology to support all operational groups.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Manager - Operations Automation & Strategy role will support the development thru implementation of large scale, key initiatives targeted at improving performance within Air Operations. This person will be responsible for and represent Air Operations for all aspects of each initiative thru the envision, design, build and activation (EDBA) phases to include new policies, procedures or operating standards.

This individual will coordinate with data analytic teams and stations to identify negative trends affecting performance/compliance and develop appropriate action plans to ensure existing tools and/or processes are aligned with overall goals. This person will also work closely to provide users within Air Operations the best resources to efficiently achieve performance goals.

This Individual will provide day to day operational support through the interpretation of standardized data that drives real-time and future performance improvements. This self-starting individual will use knowledge of operational performance to create new ideas and take them from concept to deployment. This manager will identify and maintain core metrics and goals that support related Air Operations objectives and projects.

  • Identify, develop and measure effectiveness of existing tools and procedures
  • Determine areas of improvement and develop mechanisms to drive efficiency
  • Establish relationships across organizations and with field leaders to improve collaboration
  • Provide recommendations to senior leadership and gain acceptance from the Field
  • Lead internal working teams to ensure project requirements meet the needs of the field
  • Recommend innovative ways to simplify and align procedures
  • Communicates objectives and initiatives to stakeholders for feedback and to ensure alignment
  • Supervise and develop employees within the organization performing work in support of Air Ops
  • Evaluate advancements in technology, support proofs-of-concept, measure and test solutions within adopted project lifecycles EDBA phases

NOTE: This position will be at the CSC-Willis Tower in Chicago, IL and Arlington Heights, IL

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years experience in an operational environment with 1 year leadership/management
  • Airline experience or equivalent work experience
  • Adaptability
  • Decision making skills
  • Communication & follow-up skills
  • Ability to handle conflict
  • Stress tolerance
  • Excellent technical proficiency
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Masters preferred
  • Data Mining and visualization experience
  • Strong knowledge of airport processes from both a line and a hub
  • Strong understanding of United’s and United Express fleet and route network
  • Strong knowledge in MS Office products, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to form relationships and negotiate
  • Ability to adapt quickly to work environment changes and available to respond to operational issues 24/7
