The Senior Systems Test Lead is responsible for providing expert advice and services to test systems developed by NAV CANADA Engineering. This position provides assurance that the tested systems are delivered with suitable levels of integrity and quality for safe operational deployment at NAV CANADA. Services include the assessment and testing of critical systems that are deployed at NAV CANADA and may impact the safety of both the Canadian and international Air Navigation Systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and contribute to the development of test strategies.
  • Design, implement, and execute comprehensive test plans for RTM system, ensuring maximum coverage.
  • Develop and maintain test cases based on business requirements, use cases or user stories.
  • Perform thorough functional and regression testing.
  • Create test run report, summarizing key findings, progress, and potential risks.
  • Create and maintain automated test scripts to optimize testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Investigate and reproduce reported defects, providing detailed information to the development team for resolution.
  • Ensure each software release adheres to safety and operational requirements with the highest quality standards.
  • Perform activities related to Level 2 support.
  • Respond to critical problem situations in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • Follow defined process for logging and managing support queries.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Graduated from a recognized university with a specialization in computer, electrical, or systems engineering, or computer science, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge and a minimum of 8 years experience with system testing, test engineering principles, and validation of large-scale projects for software and hardware.
  • Knowledge and experience with test automation tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with creating and maintaining test harnesses or automated test frameworks.
  • Knowledge and experience with script programming in languages such as Python.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the certification of mission critical applications.
  • Knowledge of software development and testing processes from preliminary design to formal testing and acceptance.
  • Knowledge of software requirements management tools, problem tracking tools, configuration management tools and test management tools, such as IBM Jazz.
  • Knowledge of safety management processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry trends and developments in a rapidly changing environment.

Abilities:

  • Ability to identify, address, and troubleshoot complex problems and to define & implement practical solutions.
  • Ability to develop test plans.
  • Ability to oversee the test group activities, to analyze and identify test coverage gaps and missing links between requirements and tests, including unit tests and tests procedures developed by other testers.
  • Ability to supervise, assign tasks, and direct the work of the Systems Engineering test team.
  • Ability to coach, share knowledge, and actively develop the skills and competency of other key team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
