Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Joby is searching for a Senior Tax Manager to join our finance and accounting team. Our team is made up of energetic and passionate individuals who thrive in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. You will work closely with our external tax providers and various Joby internal teams, reporting to our Corporate Controller. You will bring a high level of enthusiasm, strong work ethic and interest in learning, to help Joby accounting continue to grow. This job is based out of Joby’s California locations in Santa Cruz, with partially remote work being acceptable.

Responsibilities
  • Managing relationships with external consultants: Serving as the main point of contact for external tax consultants, coordinating their work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Compliance oversight and execution: Ensuring timely and accurate preparation and filing of income tax returns by external consultants. Drive preparation and filing of required returns and documents for sales tax, property and personal tax and other applicable taxes, leveraging internal and external consultants’ resources.
  • Support for key tax related projects: Drive and manage completion of Joby’s key initiatives in automation of sales and property tax reporting in collaboration with accounts payables, accounting, finance, supply management, IT and other Joby’s teams.
  • Tax strategy and planning: Collaborating with external tax consultants to develop and implement tax strategies that optimize the organizations tax position, minimize tax liabilities, and identify potential tax savings opportunities.
  • Financial reporting: Working with external consultants and Joby teams to ensure accurate tax provisions and disclosures in financial statements, as well as compliance with tax-related reporting requirements.
  • Internal controls and risk management: Establishing and maintaining effective internal controls related to tax processes, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, and mitigating tax-related risks in coordination with external consultants.
  • Research and analysis: Staying updated on tax laws and regulations, conducting research on complex tax issues, and providing guidance to the organization on tax implications of business decisions in collaboration with external consultants.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders: Working closely with cross-functional teams, such as legal, finance, and operations, to provide tax advice and support on various business initiatives and transactions, leveraging the expertise of external consultants.
  • Tax team growth and management: Manage expanding of Joby tax team based on Joby’s needs and requirements. Overseeing the work of internal tax team members, if applicable, providing guidance, training, and support, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Required
  • BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of U.S. and International tax law and regulations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Desired
  • Systems experience with ERPs (Microsoft AX / Dynamics 365 preferred).
  • Hands on experience with ERP and processes improvements in tax related areas.
  • CPA certification

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $108,900 - $177,200/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.Joby also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a company match, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
