Satair is looking for a Senior Transport Manager to join our team based in Herndon, VA.

For our global Transportation Team we are looking for a passionate and motivated new team member who strives for excellence in operation. As our new Senior Transportation Manager you will steer our US Transportation business and contribute to the definition and roll out of the new global transport operating model.

Your challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead US Transport related Projects and support the deployment of the Satair new global Transportation Operating Model (TMS, 3PL -4PL) contributing to the global Satair Logistics transformation program - 30

  • Drive change from local (US) to global transport operating mode working closely with our teams in Europe and APAC region
  • Ensure consistent global contractual framework and ensure full compliance with US law in cooperation with Procurement
  • Contribute to the design and deployment of our new Transport Management System  (TMS)
  • Support an End to End process review on all Transport, Customs and Export Control processes

Manage US and global 3 PL- ( and optional customs-) service providers on a tactical and strategic level to ensure performance (On time delivery, Cost, Quality, Sustainability), drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the procurement of Transportation services - 30

  • Steer monthly business reviews with our 3 PL and 4 PL, steer improvement initiatives involving all stakeholders
  • Manage US transport budget and contribute to global Transport Cost Controlling
  • Ensure alignment with US and central Finance teams, contribute to the companies financial forecast cycle
  • Contribute to global call for tender activities with US demand, ensure Purchase Order placement and supplier payments
  • Optional: steer monthly and quarterly business reviews with our customs service providers, steer improvement initiatives involving all stakeholders

Act as a Transport Business Partner for our operations and commercial teams to continuously improve transport concepts to meet Customer’s expectations  - 30

  • Monitor replenishment flows into the US
  • Forecast and anticipate Operational developments that will affect transportation flows and volumes.
  • Continuously review and optimize US and global Transport network
  • Run dedicated cost optimization initiatives at US and global level

Act as a business leader for all Transport and customs related topics in the US - 10

  • First point of contact for US Transport Manager for business related topics
  • optional first point of contact US Customs Manager for business related topics

Additional Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned:       

  • Supervise local US Transportation team (2-3 people) within the Global Transport Operations Organization

Your boarding pass:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in similar position and/or within Freight Forwarding Industry
  • Deep understanding of Transportation business
  • Bachelor’s or Master degree in Logistics or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CTL (Certified in Transportation and Logistics)
  • Fluent in English a must (both verbal and written)
  • Additional language skills a plus (German, French, Danish)

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: min  60 onsite / 40 mobile work possible
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking:  able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting:  able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling:  able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting:  able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling:  able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.
  • Travel:  able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents):  able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces .
  • Personal Protective Equipment required:  Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visit, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
