Responsibilities

The Sr. Manager, Flight Safety and ASAP is delegated authority to manage the day-to-day administration of the following Flight Safety programs, Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) and all Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) for Flight Operations (Pilots), Inflight Operations (Flight Attendant), Operational Control Center (Dispatcher), and Technical Operations (Aviation Maintenance Technician) as well as their continuous improvement, coordination and execution on behalf of Safety. The Sr. Manager, Flight Safety and ASAP plans and coordinates with all operational departments the details of the Flight Safety Programs in accordance with Title 14 CFR Part 5 guidance and from the program-respective Advisory Circulars, LOA’s and MOU’s, The Sr. Manager reports directly to the Director of Operational Safety.

  • Subject Matter Expert on the effective use of FOQA and ASAP programs.
  • Assists the respective Operational Leadership team in the management, continuous improvement, coordination and execution of the FOQA and all ASAP programs in accordance with the guidance contained in FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 120-82 and 120-66C (as revised), and the Spirit SMS.
  • Manage relationships with representatives from all operational departments, regulatory authorities/governing bodies and other relevant areas of the organization regarding the management of the FOQA and ASAP.
  • Coordinate and direct the Operational Division’s Safety Program representatives to include facilitation, Change Management, Finding’s coordination, Promotion and Just Culture.
  • Lead the standardization of Spirit ASAP program procedures.
  • Lead the effort to connect the Safety Programs with the Corporate SMS ensuring hazards are continually identified, analyzed where findings and actions are issued appropriately within SMS processes.
  • Leads the FOQA Analyst and ALPA Gatekeepers to identify adverse trends in the FOQA data.
  • Manage the research, analysis, and development of flight parameters to identify flight operations falling outside a normal range.
  • Maintain and standardize the documentation processes across the Safety Programs.
  • Evaluates and manages in the development of procedures to mitigate fatigue risk.
  • Ensures the FOQA (FMT activities) and all ASAP programs (ERC activities) records, and associated regulatory documentation remain updated with current approvals.
  • Produce reports and provide briefings to all levels of the organization, including Senior Leadership, regarding the Spirit’s FOQA and ASAP programs.
  • Support the Department Leadership team in the administration, tracking and planning of Spirits Safety Program meetings as a coordinator to ensure proper scheduling, agenda planning, and documentation of meetings.
  • Contributes to internal newsletters, communicating significant trends to stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development, delivery and maintenance of Safety Programs training to ensure Team members possess the competencies appropriate with their role in the respective Safety Program.
  • Provides operational analysis and input into the overall strategy and performance of the safety department.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g. emergencies, change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
  • Five (5) years’ work experience, preferably in 14CFR Part 121 air carrier operations; ground operations, quality, other operations, safety or a combination thereof.
  • FAA Certification(s): Commercial/ATP Preferred.
  • Accredited training in Aviation safety (SMS, Investigations, Human Factors) preferred.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Must treat confidential data using proper protocols.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner to subordinates, peers, and all levels of Senior Leadership and external entities such as the FAA.
  • Must be proficient in the English language.
  • On call as required for critical incident events.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits, and uses eye/hand coordination. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple assignments.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software through training and self-study.
  • Highly approachable professional demeanor.
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Travel approximately 10 of time.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Valid Passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States.
  • Normal Office Environment Physical Effort: Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally.
