Key Responsibilities:

The major duties of the mechanical maintenance technician are to guarantee the maintenance of mechanical processes in a manner that will ensure the highest reliability. The job description of someone holding this position covers performing repairs on malfunctioning motor driven systems, controls, pumps and other components.

  • Mechanical Hydraulic Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority. Technicians may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority.

    Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues.

What’s needed to succeed:
  • United will consider applicants with criminal histories consistent with the Fair Chance Ordinance
  • Must have knowledge, ability and previous experience in the maintenance, repair and modification of a variety of industrial equipment including fixed shop equipment such as powered shears, drill presses and press brakes, etc., and mobile equipment such as hydraulic test benches
  • Must have 24 months’ experience of trouble shooting, repairing and overhauling various hydraulic and mechanical systems and components including centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Valid US drivers license (revoked, suspended or expired are not considered valid) required
  • Must pass 10-year background check
  • Candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position
  • Must be willing to take a pre-placement physical abilities test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen
  • Overtime available/required depending upon operational need
  • Must be able to work any shift
