What will you do?
  • Interact with a broad range of stakeholders across Air France and KLM organization to get a proper understanding of our business processes, policies, etc. and how it translates into a better experience for our client and strategic goals for Air France and KLM.
  • Research and select (1) most relevant statistical / predictive approach and (2) data sources to address the goals and challenges.
  • Design and implement descriptive, predictive analytics, forecasting, and causal inference models, while controlling for quality of your results and potential limits or bias.
  • Explain approach and convey complex analysis results clearly to various types of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, at operational or executive level.
  • Provide a detailed documentation of your work to ensure continuity, reusability and knowledge sharing in the Air France and KLM community of data scientists.
  • Partner with teams across Air France and KLM organization to explore, identify and anticipate opportunities in the application of Data Science when valuable for our clients and for our business goals.
  • Contribute to developing data science expertise throughout the organization, by sharing knowledge with a pedagogical approach and demonstrating its concrete benefits.
  • Take part in Air France and KLM’s major data transformation projects, e.g. migration to our Cloud Platform, training and up-skilling for data experts, data management initiatives.
  • Act as a mentor and coach for your peers, proactively educating and upskilling them, and stay current with the latest advances in data science.

Where do you land?

You will join one of the founding entity leveraging data for Air France and KLM and for our clients: our Commercial Data Office (CDO).At both Air France and KLM, Commercial and Marketing domains have been a pioneers in leveraging data to improve our competitiveness and deliver outstanding experience for our clients.Founded a decade ago, Commercial Data Office (CDO) has been a key accelerator to serve this ambition, initially being the founder of our 360° overview of client’s interactions and experience on all touch points (digital, call center, airport, on board). Since then, CDO has extended its purpose to other essential functions for our data transformation, such as Data Governance & Data Management, Advanced Analytics of customer behavior and satisfaction, and soon an enhanced 360° overview of client’s shopping experience.Via those achievements, CDO has brought to the next level our ability to deliver value thanks to data.As a data scientist, you will be hired into CDO department, integrated into its Commercial Data Analytics (CDA) team, at the front line to serve the ambition of Air France and KLM Commercial & Marketing domains through data science.In CDA team, you will be encouraged to research the best approach for our stakeholders, test and learn in a pragmatic manner to achieve concrete results and facilitate strategic decisions, but also teach others and, when it comes to data, be a mentor for a wide range of stakeholders, whether a data expert or an executive leader. You will be working in a hybrid manner, partly from home and from the KLM HQ in Amstelveen. Office days are flexible while ensuring interactions with the rest of the team.You will also join our talented and enthusiastic KLM Data Science Community and get to meet data scientists working for domains across Air France and KLM organization (Engineering & Maintenance, Operations, Crew, etc.).

Your profile

Required Qualifications are :

  • M.Sc in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in:
  • using statistical computing languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) and manipulating structured and unstructured data
  • applying statistical techniques e.g. causal inference, multi-variate analysis, linear regression models & ANOVA, principal component analysis, factor analysis, clustering, etc.
  • drawing insights from large data sets and visualizing complex data in popular frameworks or platforms

We have found that people who match the following requirements are the ones who fit us best:

  • Consulting experience or proven experience explaining mathematical approach and results to non-expert stakeholders.
  • Experience working for transport industry and/or any domains related to Customer Experience and Commercial strategy (Marketing, Customer Service, Loyalty, Sales, etc.) is a strong plus.
  • A true passionate about causal inference and econometrics, with demonstrated experience in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to be rigorous and detail-oriented when manipulating data, willingness to dig deep into problems to support bug fixing.
  • Ability to deliver meaningful insights and striking visualization of complex data.
  • Both eager to brainstorm and research on state-of-the-art data science, as well as eager to share knowledge with others; Experience mentoring / coaching other data scientists is a plus.
  • Pragmatic, solution oriented and result driven. Passionate about the concrete impacts on customer journey and KLM business goals.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal; Proven interpersonal, analytical, communication, and presentation skills, in particular the ability to communicate complex findings in a simple manner.
  • Highly credible in organizational, time management, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum SDLC, preferably using Google Cloud Platform and GitHub, or in other open-source data science technologies (e.g. Spark) is a plus.
