Job overview and responsibilities

United Airlines’ Customer Technology Experience department partners with business and technology leaders across the company to create services and applications across key airline functionalities such as Onboard Wi-Fi, Booking,Uflifo, Check-in, Reservation systems and Operational Systems to help support the commercial and Digital Channels of United
We have a developer role open in our team who will develop and launch efficient systems and solutions in support of core organizational functions. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues, opportunities or problems in order to maximize the benefit of IT and Business investments.
Java Developer will support Customer Travel Experience Domain projects in planning, execution and delivery efforts. Possesses knowledge of software engineering best practices such as version control, software packaging and software release management, analyzes channel/customer /project requests and requirements, and drives delivery based on multiple inputs and priorities.

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing critical software systems and/or applications with a focus on continually improving our customer’s journey
• Full stack Java developer working on critical frameworks, core business capabilities and modernization of cloud based applications
• Work with AWS native technologies such as EC2, EKS, Lambda, AmazonMQ, API Gateway, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, etc.
• Design and develop advanced applications using JAVA and other open source technologies
• Work on serverless technologies, services and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes etc.)
• Recommend system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of alternative solutions
• Demonstrate an innovative mentality by staying aware of new developments within the technology space and identify which modern technologies to adapt to provide value to our business.

• Ensure commitments are delivered on time, pass unit testing, meet functional and non-functional requirements.
• Support enterprise quality assurance teams
• Work closely with team members in agile development environment where continuous integration and continuous delivery are critical.
• Support, maintain, and document software functionality.
• Support development to maximize cloud native adoption.
• Size and estimate development efforts. Define and manage development build plans.
• Analyze and refactor code periodically to keep it up to standards
• Subject Matter Expert: Develop expertise in the domain and act as a consultant/reference to Business, other IT teams and channel partners regarding domain functionalities.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration and/or equivalent work experience, education, or training.
• 3 + years of Industry experience as Java Developer
• Demonstrable track record dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results in an agile, fast-paced environment.
• Looking for a strong level of nimbleness and agility in shifting between tasks and juggling changing priorities
• Capable of managing multiple priorities, tasks, projects, and deadlines.
• Ability to promote ideas and make sound decisions as a member of a team of technical experts.
• Analytical and problem-solving skill
• Understands and has been involved in Agile development techniques in a hybrid Agile/Waterfall environment.
• Must be resourceful in this role, when a need or problem is identified, resource is expected to take initiative to help figure out how to get it filled or resolved or take responsibility him/herself to take appropriate action toward identifying a path forward.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of employees and management, in formal and informal settings.
• Works well in collaborative and individual settings,
• Proficient with Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and standard Office tools
• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

Preferred

• Firsthand experience with foundational AWS Services (such as, EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, CloudTrail, CloudFront, Lambda, EKS, and/or ECS)
• Java, Spring Boot, Apache Camel, and other open-source technologies
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Aviation Domain
