Job Description:

ACET is seeking a Hazardous Material (HazMat) Coordinator at our location in California, MD (Patuxent River Naval Base). The HazMat Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials on-site. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, to prevent accidents, spills, and environmental contamination. This role includes some Tool Room duties also. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for site HAZMAT program.
  • Knowledge of principles, standards, and techniques of HAZMAT management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable Federal, DOD, State, and Local regulations pertaining to the protection of the environment
  • Understanding of CNAF 4790.2 series Tool Control and IMRL and Naval aviation related experiences required
  • Inventory, store, and distribute hand tools and other equipment including support equipment used in aviation.
  • Maintain tool functionality, calibration specifications, and safe condition by performing frequent inspections of tools and equipment for wear, defects, or damage.
  • Inventory tools and support equipment by tracking the distribution of tools and users in a database or other system.
  • Maintain tool functionality, calibration specifications, and safe condition by performing frequent inspections of tools and equipment for wear, defects, or damage
  • Orders new tools and equipment or repairs tools as needed
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience within the last four (4) years in the management, administration, or operation of a hazardous materials/waste program. Experience should include receiving, storage, distribution, handling, and disposal of all types of material that may be utilized at the Contractor's job site.
  • One of the two years of experience should include planning, organizing, directing, operating, and evaluating a HAZMAT program for an entire organization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • HAZCOM, Hazardous Material Handling certificate 
  • Experience in an industrial environment, familiar with heavy machinery, special tools, calibrated tooling, test equipment, common hand tools, and support equipment. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of aviation tools and equipment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to pass fit for work physical and/or drug test as required.
  • Must be able to work in areas that require awkward posturing, bending, kneeling, squatting, to include working overhead.
  • Must be able to work at height in the hangar and on the flightline.
  • Must be able to man and perform Flightline Extinguisher duties.
  • If required must be able to pass a DOT physical and operate Powered Industrial Trucks.
  • If required must be able to pass a respiratory physical and wear a respirator for 2 - 4 hours.
  • If required must be able to perform confined space activities.
  • Travel may be required.
