Job Description SummaryReporting to the General Counsel of GE Licensing, the role will provide legal counsel for complex IP transactions, including technology transfer, joint ventures, and equity partnerships, anchored on all forms of intangible assets. It will provide legal support for patent and technology licensing programs at GE Licensing (from mining and early development to negotiation and closure). S/he will advise transaction leaders on legal matters in real time commercial discussions with third parties. S/he will be committed to mentoring across teams, forging strong relationships internally and externally, as well as passionate about teamwork and exploring creative business models to innovate and maximize intellectual property value.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Working remotely, partner with commercial leads on negotiating multi-faceted complex technology based transactions, including technology transfer licenses, software licenses, joint ventures and partnerships, joint developments, research partnerships, etc.
  • Draft, review and help negotiate associated agreements
  • Identify and scope relevant IP portfolios, developing IP and technology programs, asserting IP, negotiating transactions, drafting IP or technology licenses, and facilitating IP sales, acquisitions, and investments 
  • Counsel business executives on protecting technology and IP and on legal impact of business decisions or actions
  • Secure and manage proper use of outside counsel and experts as required to complement internal activities 
  • Stay up-to-date with latest changes in US and global patent law, and educate the senior leadership team on how such changes impact current and future licensing activities
  • Provide other general legal advice and guidance as required

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited school and membership in good standing in at least one state (or D.C.) bar. 
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in a state or territory of the U.S.
  • Bachelors degree in a technical discipline from an accredited school
  • Minimum of three years of experience negotiating and drafting complex agreements
  • Working knowledge of patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret and other intellectual property law
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 35

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in private practice in a big law firm with a focus on intellectual property or corporate transactional law with IP focus
  • Bachelors degree in electrical/communications/electronics engineering or physics from an accredited school
  • Experience managing IP portfolios, including patents, trademarks, and/or trade secret management
  • Experience on transaction teams as legal advisor for complex and creative business models anchored in intellectual property. 
  • Familiarity with export control laws as applied to transferring technology across borders

The base pay range for this position is $135,500 to $226,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan.  This posting is expected to close on March 29th.

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.  GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
