&34;The team Human Factors and Ergonomics in Cockpit Design is responsible for the development of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for different platforms such as helicopters, UAM or drones. The associated process covers requirements engineering, HMI design, specification, assessments for validation and verification and certification.

The main objective of this internship is to gain detailed information in the field of operating external mission lights in a helicopter and develop an HMI concept for it. In current helicopters various external mission lights are existing and are used by different operators with varying mission profiles. Therefore you will tackle the question of simplification and harmonization of a future interface in the cockpit.&34;

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities
  • Analyze current state of the art of external mission lighting and its HMI in helicopters

  • Analyze the operational background and the usage of different external lights with respect to environmental conditions, mission profiles, flight crew composition, task allocation, etc. 

  • Develop an HMI concept for helicopters external lighting based on the outcomes of your analysis.

  • Think of potential future external lighting functionalities and their integration in the cockpit

 Desired skills and qualifications
  • Enrolled full-time student in the area of human factors engineering, aerospace engineering, cognitive psychology, a similar field of study

  • Interest in helicopter missions, operations and usage. Interested in task allocation of helicopter flight crews (such as pilots, co-pilot, operators, hoist operator, medical crew, etc)

  • Motivated and autonomously working

  • Fluent english skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to acquire knowledge yourself and have an eye for essentials

  • Language Skills: English Business Fluent, German or French would be a plus
