Engineering, Test & Technology (ET&T) is looking for a Jig Borer to join our team in Portland, OR. Machinists in this position set up, operate, and adjust conventional and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) jig boring mills to rough out and finish precision holes in machined material (e.g., type, quantity) and tools or fixtures are called out.
Position Responsibilities:
Submit planning changes, as required. Locate material to be machined as specified on Work Order (W/O) or drafts, jigs and fixtures from various types of material
Obtain appropriate drawings, specification, documents and/or sketches, using computing systems (e.g., REDARS, CATIA)
Layout, plan and sequence work
Use shop math, geometry and/or trigonometry to calculate dimensions, as required
Identify machine to be used in Jig Bore operation (e.g., Ronin (Siemens control), Pratt and Whitney)
Check machine for visible defects; contact Facilities for maintenance or repair, as required
Select machine accessories and holding devices (e.g., cubes, blocks, rotary turntables, angle plates)
Verify apparatus is in good condition. Identify fixtures and/or shop aids to be built and fabricate
Operate overhead crane/electric stacker to load set-up equipment and material on machine
Attach machine accessories, material, tools and shop aids (e.g., dial indicators, edge finders, wrenches, bolts, clamps)
Select and check required cutting tools (e.g., drills, reamers, boring head, taps) per program or CNC documents
Ensure cutters are correct type, length, diameter, radius and in good condition; replace, as required
Create and/or edit, upload/download CNC programs for various types /makes of jig bore machines, using computing equipment, software, and accessing servers/data bases, per shop requirements
Perform any finish milling needed to complete job
Run conventional and CNC machines to bore and machine parts, per engineering drawings, create programs in the Siemens control, CNC documents
Have parts inspected by Quality Assurance, as required
Adjust machine settings (e.g., speeds and feeds) to correct machining problems or to prepare machine for next operation in sequence
Monitor machine operations for unusual vibration or sounds, watch machine gauges and controller display
Assemble jigs and fixtures (e.g., drill jigs, check fixtures, machine fixtures) using bolts, dowels and other standard tool items required per drawing
Coordinate with appropriate personnel when jobs need to be transferred between organization/shop (e.g., Tooling, NC Programming, Engineering) for completion, as required
Check work during each operation and after completing job using precision measuring tools (e.g., probing, micrometer, height gage, dial indicator, bore gage, depth gage, sine plate) to ensure parts are complete per drawing
Remove sharp edges from part with debur tools or files
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner per Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), using personal protective equipment, as required. Maintain personal and tool certifications
This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
3&43; years of experience with NC Machine Controllers & Kinematics such as Siemens and Fanuc
5&43; years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.
Experience in a role requiring strong analytical and problem solving skills
3&43; years of experience doing jobs or tasks where you had to apply math skills such as algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $32.50/hour – $48.81/hour
