Summary To ensure that the Dunkirk Facility maintains a safe working environment by coordinating the scheduling and training of all safety, health and environmental related topics to employees assigned to work at that location. This job is also responsible for keeping all records concerning safety, health and environmental as required by corporate and mandated by New York State and Federal laws. Essential Functions Safety: Manage day to day safety efforts in Dunkirk o Update Safety Cross (daily) o Update Safety board and make postings as needed (Weekly) o Managed the Arch Flash gear required for Dunkirk Electricians (Monthly) o Manage required Safety testing, fittings, and inspections for Dunkirk Employees (Yearly) o Managed the safety data base reporting in Gensuite (i.e. concern reports, near miss, injuries, and First Aid) (As needed) o Manage yearly and semiannual DEP, and local environmental reporting (Weekly record keeping) o 7 Minute Safety talk development and training (Weekly) o Employee suggestions and updates (Daily/Weekly) o Inspection of AED’s (Weekly) o Manage Fire Extinguishers in shop (Daily) o Meet with FM Global Representatives and follow through with reasonable recommendations (Semiannual) o Coordinate monthly safety committee meetings with Union. (Monthly) o Schedule and coordinate air, noise, and other required testing. (as needed) o Train new hires on forklifts, cranes, and equipment operation (As needed) o Refresher safety training on equipment in Dunkirk (Monthly) o Report Safety stats at each line walk (twice daily) o Schedule annual First Aid, CPR & AED training for Dunkirk employees (Annually) Manage and Revamp employee suggestion program in Dunkirk. o Develop new incentive program for employee suggestion participation. o Revive the support of all Dunkirk employees to submit employee suggestions. o Manage and track time from issuance to completion of employee suggestion with the expectation to improve velocity. CIP Coordinator: - Manage CIP projects in Dunkirk o Leader of Dunkirk CIP team for one shift o Envision, Develop and implement CIP projects in Dunkirk with a savings of 2X-3X annual salary. This is completed as a cross functional team utilizing hourly employees. o Develop CIP team program with some incentive for projects that are successful. o Report CIP project updates with Plant Manager on Tuesday pipeline project meetings. - Become 6S and Lean improvement project leader in Dunkirk. o Get qualified in 6S. o Learn basic building blocks of Lean and how to implement them in the workplace o Implement 6S projects across the plant to better utilize the workforce and decrease waste. - Manage employee training matrix o Conduct monthly refresher training on SWI’s for employees o Ensure that all required employee SWI and PC training is complete o Review SWI’s and PC for validity and improvement opportunities. Make changes to these documents as required. Additional Responsibilities Accomplishes all tasks as appropriate. Will be cross trained to fill in as Production and Maintenance Supervisor as needed for vacations and unforeseen vacancies. Qualifications Competencies Basic background knowledge of metals manufacturing Update, improve and develop new JSA’s for the Dunkirk facility First Aid Qualified OSHA 30 hour required Possess a thorough knowledge and ability to manipulate data in a computer through MS and Oracle software Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in safety or related field preferred, but not necessary. Experience and training in safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, fire protection services. OSHA certification and training is required. Special Skills Computer literacy is a requirement. Ability to interface with any person in the organization. Organizational skills and attention to detail are critical. Reliable attendance and good communication skills are essential.
