The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a SeniorCategory Specialistto support continuing growth experienced within Boeing Defence Australia. The successful candidate will join the Supply Chain Management capability and reside in the Centre of Excellence. Reporting to the Manager, Category Management, the successful candidate responsibilities will include:

  • The development, endorsement and execution of a strategy for all category management through the entire procurement lifecycle.
  • Leverage category management experience and expertise to provide guidance, support and coaching to category specialists and cross-functional teams, to ensure the successful execution of category strategies.
  • Adhere to supply chain governance policies and procedures in relation to category & supplier management to ensure consistent and standardized practices across the supply chain.
  • Support supplier identification, selection, evaluation, and onboarding processes aligned to allocated categories and to ensure that suppliers meet the organisations quality and ethical standards.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in relation to supplier selection and management.
  • Development and maintenance of accurate category management resource demand forecasts for allocated categories in current and future years.
  • Identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities within allocated categories and establishing risk mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions.
  • Utilizing data analytics tools to track category & supplier Management metrics, identify areas for improvement, and prepare regular reports for management.
  • Conduct market research and analyse trends to identify opportunities and make informed decisions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new product developments, and emerging technologies relevant to the categories and collaborate with the industry development and engagement team.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate and maintain favorable terms, pricing, and contracts.
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with key stakeholders to understand business requirements and support the development of enterprise strategies.
  • Negotiate agreements, including reviewing and drafting contractual terms and conditions.
  • Engage with large multi-national and local SME suppliers ensuring compliance to regulatory, trade control (export/import) and cyber security requirements.
  • Participate in the development of process improvement initiatives and value for money opportunities.
  • Conduct market engagement activities (RFx) to identify and select qualified suppliers aligned to allocated categories.

To be successful you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in category management (Defence industry experience is desirable).
  • Tertiary Education in Commerce, Law or Business or relevant experience.
  • High level competency in written and oral communication and standard business tools and systems.
  • An enthusiasm for working with suppliers and identifying new opportunities and relationships.
  • The ability to work with cross functional teams.
  • The ability to work autonomously to see projects and opportunities through to completion.
