Boeing is seeking a Shot Peening Operator A to join our team in Portland, OR.

Employees in this position set up, operate and adjust shot peening equipment to form parts to various contours or to straighten parts, materials and tools.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Determine the machine settings and adjustments required to achieve specified contour on parts, test panels or tooling.

  • Determine specific areas to be shot peened and lay out reference points or guide lines for processing.

  • Process test specimens and sample parts. Independently setup, adjust and operate a variety of conventional and NC shot peen machines.

  • May include multiple nozzle, multiple axis, or multiple wheel machines.

  • Develop and edit programs as required to obtain specified surface conditioning of parts, materials, tool and test panels.

  • Determine specific areas to be shot peened, layout reference points or guidelines for the processing of test specimens and sample parts.

  • Work with and interpret blueprints, sketches, documents, work orders, written and verbal information.

  • Record data on setups, adjustments, processing time, shot size, etc., for subsequent reference and use.

  • Mask or shield areas that must be protected from shot using available tooling or improvising protective cover.

  • Use instruments, templates and fixtures to check work.

  • Sequence operations.

  • Devise and fabricate authorized shop aids to accomplish work assignments.

  • Supply information to service groups and supervision to aid in development of process and methods for shot peen operations.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as needed.

  • DEFINITION OF TERMS: *Machine setting and adjustments: This involves determination of longitudinal feed rate, nozzle angles and transverse oscillation, number of nozzles to use, nozzle size, shot size, air pressure, etc.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience operating automated/manual shot peen equipment.

  • 1+ years of experience interpreting manufacturing blueprints.

  • 1+ years of experience working with precision measuring tools.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • High School diploma or GED preferred

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Shift:

This is a 2nd shift position.

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.
