Role Description:
The Diplomatic Security Baggage Screening Technician Lead is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, baggage, and cargo at the airport. The Lead will provide oversight of terminal baggage screening operations to ensure all procedures are followed by assigned Baggage Screening Technicians. This position also operates various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers. This role plays a critical part in maintaining airport security and preventing prohibited items from being transported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of baggage and cargo scanning teams.
- Train and mentor scanner personnel in the use of scanning equipment and security protocols.
- Monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of scanning procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all airport security regulations and guidelines.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations of scanning staff.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for the scanning team.
- Manage scheduling and shift rotations for scanner personnel.
- Operate x-ray machines and other technologies to inspect checked baggage, carry-on items, and cargo.
- Identify prohibited items, explosives, and dangerous materials.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols and regulations.
- Handles escalated passenger complaints related to scanning processes.
- Analyze scanning data for trends and potential security risks.
- Use scanner machines and hand wands to check passengers for illicit items.
- Perform physical pat-downs as required, respecting privacy and individual needs.
- Verify passenger boarding passes and identification to ensure compliance with flight requirements.
- Coordinate with other security personnel, airline staff, and law enforcement agencies.
- Report any suspicious or potentially dangerous situations promptly.
- Provide clear instructions to passengers during the screening process.
- Implement and enforce safety measures around scanning equipment.
- Address and resolve technical issues with scanning machinery.
- Regularly inspect and maintain screening equipment.
- Troubleshoot minor issues and report any malfunctions promptly.
