Summary
 
The Aviation Technical Writer, I, writes and coordinates a high volume of general aviation safety content across all AOPA and AOPA Air Safety Institute (ASI) media channels including print, online, video, and social media in support of ASI’s mission to improve general aviation safety through industry-leading research, analysis, education, and outreach.
 
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
 
Deepen our connection with AOPA members and promote membership growth through outstanding and engaging stories for use in print, online, video, email, and social media. Reach the next generation of pilots and AOPA members by utilizing the latest writing and media trends and practices. Manage ASI’s weekly outreach and product tracking calendars to determine which ASI products and other areas of safety-related interests should be covered in various publications and other channels.
Job Requirements:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related fields. Professional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 1 – 3 years of relevant experience in writing and editing aviation-related content.
  • Minimum FAA certificated Sport or Private Pilot; instrument rating or flight instructor preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills as a creative and innovative writer with the ability to conceptualize, script, and tell engaging stories using styles and mediums that attract new audiences.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, demanding, focused environment while working on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates initiative, punctuality, teamwork, dependability, and accepts constructive feedback with a positive attitude.
  • Self-starter who seeks opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to travel to various aviation events as a representative of ASI and AOPA.
  • Social media savvy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
